These are the common technical questions

Cat Jump Starter Cj1000dcp Manual

  1. Q: Battery won't charge or hold charge?
A: The battery needs to be charged regularly even when not in use. The battery should be charged a minimum of once a month. Failure to do so can result in damaged cells and the battery not charging or holding a charge. Battery may also be damaged if the proper procedure for jumping the vehicle is not followed.
  2. Q: Do they come charged?
A: Batteries are fully charged at the factory but they will lose charge over time. New units need to be charged prior to initial use and at least once a month between usages. The initial charge could take up to 72 hours or until the charge light activates.
  3. Q: What if my battery is completely drained on my vehicle?
A: This item is a booster and will not start a vehicle with a completely dead battery.
  4. Q: How to dispose of jumpstart?
A: The jumpstarter contains a sealed lead-acid battery and needs to be recycled like any other battery. Follow local regulations for proper disposal.
  5. Q: Can I replace battery?
A: No. There are no user serviceable parts inside this unit.
  6. Q: How do I test my jumpstart battery?
A: In some models to check if the battery is charging you must press the battery symbol button or the battery test button. In other models press the battery test for the volt meter. If it reads in the green the battery is charged.
  7. Q: How do I connect my jumpstarter to my vehicle?
A: Refer to the vehicle owner's manual for jumpstarting instructions and to determine whether you have a negative ground system (most common) or a positive ground system.

    On a Negative Ground Vehicle

If your unit is equipped with an on/off switch, make sure the switch is in the 'off' position. Connect the red clamp to the positive (+) battery terminal. The black clamp should be attached to the engine block or other non-moving metal part of the stalled vehicle. Do not connect the black clamp to the negative (-) battery terminal. Doing so could cause damage to the unit and/or create a sparking/explosion hazard. Turn the main switch to the 'on' position.

    On a Postive Ground Vehicle

If your unit is equipped with an on/off switch, make sure the switch is in the 'off' position. Connect the black clamp to the positive (+) battery terminal. The red clamp should be attached to the engine block or other non-moving metal part of the stalled vehicle. Do not connect the red clamp to the negative (-) battery terminal. Doing so could cause damage to the unit and/or create a sparking/explosion hazard. Turn the main switch to the 'on' position.
  8. Q: Will the battery test button tell me the charge of my car battery?
A: The battery test button only tells you the state of the jumpstarter battery. It will not tell you the state of charge of your car battery.
  9. Q: Why does my jumpstart make a buzzing sound?
A: Some jumpstart models are equipped with an alarm that indicates low voltage on the battery. If charging the battery does not eliminate the buzzing alarm the battery could be at the end of its useful life. Turning on the air compressor and work light will speed the process of draining the battery and quieting the alarm. Jumpstart will then need to be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
  10. Q: What if I reverse cables?
NOTE: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REVIEW WARNING AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE!! A: If cables are attached to the incorrect battery terminal the Cables Reversed LED will switch on and a warning tone will sound (if equipped). If this occurs, correct the connection before proceeding to the next step. Failure to do so may cause sparking, personal injury and/or harm to the vehicle or jumpstarter unit.
  11. My Jumpstarter shows charged but is not working.
A: Power switch must be turned to 'ON' position.

Facts about jumpstarters

How
  • The on/off switch (if equipped) needs to be set in the 'on' position only when trying to jump start a vehicle.
  • Charging light will not come on when charging from the vehicle
  • DC charge only 2 hours at a time — it will damage your jumpstarter battery if plugged in for any longer.
  • Charging cords are stored inside the unit. Check the storage compartment located on the unit for the 120V AC extension cord or 12V DC male to male power cord (if equipped).
  • Many standard AC extension cords can also be used to charge the jumpstarter as well.
  • Jumpstarter is not a battery charger
  • Air compressor should not be run for periods longer than 10 minutes without 10 minutes of cooling to prevent overheating. Overheating the compressor can reduce compressor life and may permanently damage the compressor.
  • You cannot jump your car only using the 12v DC cord- this cord is only intended for charging your PowerStation.
